Abstract

|
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is one of the most common types of soft tissue sarcoma in late adult life, but the involvement of head and neck area is relatively rare. The MFH had variable morphologic features and frequently showed
transitions
from areas having a highly ordered storiform pattern to less differentiated areas having a pleomorphic appearance, so may be classified into 5 subtypes.
The high incidence of local recurrence of these neoplasm necessitates wide surgical resection. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy appear to be little value in the treatment of these tumors.
The authors have experienced a case of MFH involving the left maxillary sinus and nasal cavity in a sixty-year old male. We reported with review of literature. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:6, 1995)
